Recycled pallets have grown in popularity over the last two to three decades as a means of distributing and moving merchandise. The recycled pallet has emerged as the standard pallet in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, shipping, warehousing, and packaging. Customers’ views on using pallets have evolved.
Pallet recyclers can take a pallet that would otherwise be deemed undesired and fix it up so that it is ready to be added back to the pallet pool, which is one reason for this modification. Pallet users are now accustomed to using remanufactured pallets rather than brand-new ones when carrying their goods. Recycled pallets are typically given at a significantly cheaper cost than new pallets, depending on the size of the pallet. In the US the most common pallet sizes are 40×40, 48×40, 42×42 and 48×48.
Pallet recycling can be credited for eliminating massive pallets that would otherwise accumulate at your back door. It’s necessary to mention that as a result of today’s recycling, pallets that would otherwise be destined for waste disposal sites are going back into service and recycled. As for the wood waste generated by the pallet recyclers, this is ground into chips and used to produce several valuable products.
New softwood and hardwood pallets
This may come as a surprise to most people, but in fact, trees are rarely cut down to manufacture new wooden pallets. Today, most trees are cut down for high-value products such as the construction industry, furniture, and flooring products. Through a grading process, the lumber that cannot be used in the construction industry, furniture or flooring manufacturing is designated as pallet stock and eventually sold to the pallet industry.
As you can see, most new softwood and hardwood pallets are manufactured from discarded or low-grade lumber. Unlike recycled pallets, new pallets are manufactured to accommodate a specific product with a required load-carrying capacity. New pallets are the pallets of choice in today’s highly automated manufacturing facilities. New pallets are the optimal way to go if you are looking for a reliable, clean product designed to your specifications.
