Wooden Pallets for Do It Yourself Garden Projects

Warehouses and other facilities can be about more than just work and machines. According to NBC News, plants increase our concentration and productivity by 15% while reducing stress. Breathing some life into your facility starts with upcycling your wooden pallets.

Pallet Management Group has a Drop-and-Switch program, but we won’t hold it against you if you keep your pallets. As a recycling solutions provider, we support eco-friendly endeavours.

No matter what DIY project you intend to work on, always ensure that your pallets are not contaminated with chemicals and have been sanded down to prevent splinters.

Garden Supporters

Do you have employees who are passionate about gardening? Well, they’ll love having a raised garden—or three—around the warehouse’s property. Putting flower gardens will increase the facility’s curb appeal, and if placed around the break area outside, it will make it more appealing to relax.

How to build a raised bed frame:

  1. Choose the appropriate size pallets and decide how many planks you want for each side. The size of the pallets will determine how large of a frame you wish to have, while the number of planks will evaluate the structure’s height.
  2. Use a hammer, screwdriver, and crowbar to take the planks apart. Should you come across any staples, you can either remove them or hammer them flat, although they will still be sharp and may cause interference when hammering your nails.
  3. Make sure you have enough planks that are the same size for each side of the frame. Separate the planks according to their heights to verify this.
  4. Line up the same-sized planks together and place one plank perpendicular at each end so they cover the length of the four planks. Hammer two nails into the perpendicular planks for each of the four planks. The end product will result in one side of your frame. Do this step three more times.
  5. Stand all four sides up perpendicularly so they form a box frame. Use 3-inch nails, or longer, to connect each side. Do this by hammering the nails into the thin side of the plank parallel to you. Use three or more pins, one placed in the middle and one on each end.
  6. Go out and buy the plants and other materials for your raised bed!

If you want to bring the garden indoors, we have another DIY pallet project that is more straightforward and less work. A pallet board is easy to mount on the wall or can be left to lean on, allowing you to change its location easily. A pallet board holds miniature plants to add colour and pleasant scents to any space. Don’t limit yourself to flowers; herbs are great for this type of garden.

How to make a pallet board:

  1. Choose the appropriate size of pallet that will fit on your wall.
  2. Use a hammer and crowbar to separate the top of the pallet from the bottom. Make sure you keep the top in one piece. Remove the staples in the wood.
  3. Sand the pallet. You can leave the pallet board unfinished or use stains, paints, and other materials to decorate it.
  4. Attach hooks to the pallet board that will support your type of planters, or connect the pins to the farmers and slide them onto the planks of the pallet board.
  5. Mount the pallet board on the wall or lean it against it, depending on your area.
  6. Remove plants to water and feed them.

DIY projects are great ways to strengthen teams and help employees feel accepted by their company. They see that their company is open-minded to new ideas and cares about their well-being.
