What Delaware makes and moves.
The Port of Wilmington sits where the Christina River meets the Delaware, and the state has owned it since 1995 through the Diamond State Port Corporation. It has been ranked the top North American port for imported fresh fruit, bananas and juice concentrate, and it runs large temperature-controlled warehouses beside the berths. Down the peninsula, Sussex County is often cited as the top poultry-producing county in the country, with poultry houses concentrated in the farm country of its western half. Kent County, around Dover, is farm country with food processors of its own.
So Delaware's pallet demand is cold, seasonal and quick to turn over. Fruit landed at the port is stored, repacked and trucked to grocery distributors, which takes a large number of 48x40 pallets in good shape. Poultry plants ship chilled and frozen product every week of the year. Warehouses in New Castle County serve the Philadelphia–Baltimore corridor, and Delmarva farms ship tomatoes, green beans and corn through the summer.

I-95 crosses northern Delaware through Newark and Wilmington, with I-495 running along the waterfront past the port. The Delaware Memorial Bridge carries I-295 to New Jersey and links the Delaware Turnpike with the New Jersey Turnpike. Delaware Route 1 and US 13 run south through Dover to Sussex County, and US 113 serves the poultry towns. Two Class I railroads serve the Port of Wilmington, and Philadelphia's Packer Avenue terminal and the Port of Baltimore are a short run up or down I-95.

The right grade for Delaware.
Fruit and juice handlers at the port should order Grade A or new 48x40 pallets that hold up in cold storage and ripening rooms. Poultry plants in Sussex County need the same quality, with tight boards for wet floors and freezers. Distribution centers in New Castle County can use Grade B for storage and Grade A for outbound retail loads. Anything leaving the country in a container needs HT pallets with the ISPM 15 mark. Grades differ between yards, so your account manager spells out the spec in writing.
