What San Antonio makes and ships

San Antonio at a glance

San Antonio sits where I-35 up from Laredo meets I-10 and I-37, so cross-border trucks roll right through town. On the southwest side, Port San Antonio has turned the old Kelly Air Force Base into an industrial airport and rail-served business park.

San Antonio's freight economy leans on the I-35 corridor to Laredo. Port San Antonio offers Kelly Field's 11,500-foot runway, a foreign-trade zone, on-site U.S. Customs and the East Kelly Railport, served by two Class I railroads; the port counts more than 7,000 aerospace maintenance and repair workers on site. On the South Side, a pickup and SUV assembly plant off Applewhite Road is adding an axle plant next door, with most axles bound for assembly lines in Mexico. A Class I intermodal terminal also sits on I-35 in southwestern San Antonio.

That spread makes pallet demand broad. Northeast-side DCs along I-35 in Schertz, Selma and Live Oak want standard 48x40s. Aerospace repair shops at Kelly move engines and heavy components that often call for custom platforms. Cold storage on FM 78 and a food plant at Brooks want consistent pallets that hold up in freezers. And any load that crosses at Laredo needs wood that meets ISPM 15.

How freight moves

I-35 runs south to the Laredo bridges and north through New Braunfels toward Austin and Dallas. I-10 links San Antonio east to Houston and Port Houston's container docks and west to El Paso, and I-37 heads southeast to Corpus Christi. Loop 410 and Loop 1604 ring the city, and SH 130 begins in southwest San Antonio before turning into a toll bypass of Austin east of Seguin. The East Kelly Railport and a Class I intermodal terminal on I-35 handle rail freight, and Kelly Field has customs inspection on site.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for San Antonio.

Start with where the load ends up. Anything crossing at Laredo, including parts for Mexican assembly plants, needs heat-treated (HT) pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Northeast-side DCs shipping to stores do well with Grade A 48x40s, and Grade B covers internal and one-way moves. Freezer docks at Brooks or on FM 78 should ask for new or premium recycled stock with sound boards. Aerospace and heavy industrial work at Kelly may need block pallets for true 4-way entry, or custom sizes built to a drawing.

Buying pallets in San Antonio: questions

Do loads crossing at Laredo need heat-treated pallets?
Yes. Mexico requires wood packaging on international shipments to meet ISPM 15, so pallets riding south on I-35 should be heat treated and carry the IPPC mark. Tell your account manager the load crosses the border, and the order will specify HT pallets from accredited facilities in writing.
Can you deliver to tenants inside Port San Antonio?
Yes. We deliver to docks at Port San Antonio, including the Kelly Field and East Kelly Railport areas, as long as the building can receive a full truckload. Share gate or security instructions with your order, and your account manager confirms the pallet spec in writing.
What pallets suit freezer docks on the Northeast Side?
Freezer and cooler warehouses, such as the newer cold storage along FM 78, need pallets that stay square through condensation and constant forklift traffic. New or top-grade recycled 48x40s are the usual choice. Heat treatment kills pests but does not prevent mold, so ask about storage conditions too.
Do you cover New Braunfels and Seguin, not just Bexar County?
Yes. Docks in Comal and Guadalupe counties along I-35 and I-10, including New Braunfels, Schertz, Cibolo and Seguin, are part of our San Antonio coverage. Each load is quoted to the exact address, and your account manager confirms grade and size.
Can aerospace shops at Kelly order custom pallets for engine parts?
Yes. Send the part dimensions, weight and how the load is lifted, and we can source custom sizes or block pallets built to the drawing. If the parts are going overseas or to Mexico, the order will call for heat-treated wood with the ISPM 15 mark.
Where can I buy pallets in San Antonio, TX?
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to San Antonio, TX?
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach San Antonio, TX?
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
