What New Jersey makes and moves.
Port Newark–Elizabeth Marine Terminal, run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, is the main container facility for the New York metro and much of the Northeast. Its imports feed distribution centers in the Meadowlands and along the New Jersey Turnpike, where warehouses line both sides of the road near Cranbury and Monroe and industrial parks run into South Brunswick. The state also makes food, packaged goods and medicine. Down south, Hammonton calls itself the Blueberry Capital of the World, and low ground in the Pine Barrens grows cranberries.
That makes New Jersey a heavy user of standard 48x40 pallets. Many import containers arrive floor-loaded, so cargo gets palletized at transload and cross-dock buildings before it moves to stores. Grocery and packaged-goods DCs turn pallets in high counts and inspect what they receive. South Jersey packers get busy during the summer berry harvest, and exporters sending boxes back out through the port need heat-treated wood.

Big distribution centers between Turnpike Exits 7A and 8A, in Robbinsville, Cranbury, Monroe and South Brunswick, ship household and packaged goods to stores across the Northeast. Retail receivers check pallet condition at the dock, so outbound loads usually ride Grade A GMA-style 48x40s while Grade B handles storage.

How freight moves
Ports, rail and interstates.
The New Jersey Turnpike carries I-95 freight from the Delaware Memorial Bridge north toward the George Washington Bridge; between Exits 6 and 14, trucks must use the outer roadways. I-78 runs west from Newark toward the Lehigh Valley, I-287 rings the northern suburbs, and I-295 and the Atlantic City Expressway serve South Jersey. Port Newark–Elizabeth sits beside the Turnpike and Newark Liberty International Airport, and the Port Authority's ExpressRail program moves containers between ship and train at the docks.

Which pallet to order
The right grade for New Jersey.
Transload and cross-dock warehouses near the port usually run recycled Grade B or Grade A 48x40s, depending on whether pallets leave the building. Retail and grocery DCs off the Turnpike should order Grade A, or AAA for chains with strict receiving rules. Blueberry and produce packers in Atlantic County need Grade A for cooled rooms. Freight going back out through Port Newark–Elizabeth needs HT pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Heavy machinery may need block pallets or custom sizes. Your account manager confirms each grade in writing.
