What Maryland makes and ships

Maryland at a glance

Maryland's freight centers on the Port of Baltimore's container, auto and forest-products terminals and the I-95 warehouse belt between Baltimore and Washington. Hagerstown adds a second crossroads where I-70 meets I-81, and the Eastern Shore ships poultry and seafood.

The Port of Baltimore spreads across Seagirt, Dundalk, Fairfield and Locust Point, handling containers, roll-on/roll-off cars and farm and construction machinery, plus wood pulp, lumber and paper. Since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in March 2024, the outer-harbor crossing on I-695 has been gone; state officials now expect the replacement to open in late 2030. Inland, the Maryland Food Center in Jessup houses the state's wholesale produce and seafood markets, and Hagerstown has drawn warehouse growth because it sits where I-81 meets I-70.

That gives Maryland buyers several distinct pallet markets. Port warehouses around Dundalk, Canton and Curtis Bay handle imports and exports. Jessup and the BWI airport area hold food and retail distribution. Hagerstown's newer buildings serve e-commerce freight moving on I-81, a cheaper alternative to sites near I-95. On the Eastern Shore, poultry plants around Salisbury ship chilled and frozen product, and seafood packers work towns like Crisfield.

How freight moves

I-95 runs from Delaware through Baltimore toward Washington, with I-695 circling Baltimore; the Key Bridge segment stays out until the replacement opens, so harbor traffic uses the Fort McHenry and Harbor tunnels or the western beltway. I-70 heads west from Baltimore to Hagerstown, where it crosses I-81, and I-83 runs north to Harrisburg. US 50 and US 13 carry Eastern Shore freight. Seagirt handles containers, Dundalk and Fairfield handle autos and roll-on/roll-off cargo, and Locust Point handles forest products. BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport carries air cargo.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Maryland.

Port warehouses packing exports need HT pallets bearing the IPPC mark, and breakbulk machinery often rides block pallets or custom skids. Grocery and food DCs around Jessup and BWI should order Grade A GMA-style 48x40s, or AAA for strict retail receivers. Hagerstown e-commerce buildings can run recycled Grade B for internal storage. Eastern Shore poultry and seafood plants do best with Grade A or new pallets for cold, wet rooms. Your account manager writes the grade definition into every quote, since yards grade differently.

Buying pallets in Maryland: questions

How does the Key Bridge collapse affect pallet deliveries to the Port of Baltimore?+
The I-695 crossing over the outer harbor is gone until the replacement opens, which officials now expect in late 2030. Trucks heading to Dundalk or Sparrows Point use the harbor tunnels or the western side of the beltway, and your account manager plans the route when confirming your delivery.
Can you deliver pallets to the Maryland Food Center in Jessup?+
Yes. We deliver to produce and seafood wholesalers at the Jessup markets and to food warehouses nearby. Tell us your receiving hours and check-in process, and your account manager confirms the grade and arrival time in writing before the load is booked.
What pallets do Eastern Shore poultry plants order?+
Plants around Salisbury and across the lower Shore usually ask for Grade A or new 48x40 pallets that hold up to washdowns and freezers. Some specify lumber or deck coverage. Send the plant's spec, and your account manager confirms it before the first truck.
Do you deliver to warehouses around Hagerstown on I-81?+
Yes. We deliver truckloads to buildings in Hagerstown and across Washington County, and to Frederick on I-70. Many of these DCs book inbound by appointment, so share your scheduling system, and your account manager confirms the slot, grade and count.
Where can I buy pallets in Maryland?+
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Maryland?+
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Maryland?+
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
