Sourcing

Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't own a yard. For each load we buy from the closest vetted yard that has your grade in stock. One account manager handles your quote, paperwork and invoice.

What Massachusetts makes and ships

Massachusetts at a glance

Massachusetts freight feeds Greater Boston. Produce wholesalers in Chelsea and Everett, scallop boats in New Bedford and cranberry bogs in Plymouth County supply the warehouses along Route 128 and I-495, and Conley Terminal in South Boston handles the ocean boxes.

The state's economy leans on research, health care and advanced manufacturing, but much of its truck freight comes from feeding and supplying Greater Boston. The New England Produce Center in Chelsea and its sister Boston Market Terminal in Everett sell to stores and restaurants across the region. Meat and seafood wholesalers work around Newmarket Square in Boston. New Bedford's fleet lands scallops, and NOAA landings data has long put it at or near the top of U.S. ports by value. Massachusetts is also the second-largest cranberry state.

Each of those trades runs its own pallet calendar. Cranberry handlers get busy from mid-September into early November, New Bedford processors work on ice all year, and the Chelsea markets run through the night and early morning. Inland, warehouses along I-495, Route 128 and the Mass Pike handle retail and e-commerce freight on standard 48x40s, while medical-device and instrument makers ship smaller, high-value lots that need careful packing.

Ports, rail and highways

How freight moves

Greater Boston has two beltways: Route 128/I-95 close in and I-495 farther out. The Mass Pike (I-90) runs west through Worcester to Springfield, where I-91 crosses north to south. I-93 links Boston with New Hampshire, and I-195 links Providence, Fall River and New Bedford. Conley Terminal in South Boston is Massport's container terminal, reached by a dedicated freight corridor near I-90 and I-93; it has no on-dock rail. Logan Airport carries air cargo, and the Ayer intermodal facility serves rail shippers.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Massachusetts.

Food wholesalers and seafood processors should order Grade A or new 48x40 pallets; cold, wet rooms expose any cracked board. Cranberry and packaged-food shippers selling into grocery networks usually need GMA-style 48x40s in Grade A. I-495 warehouses can save with Grade B for storage and internal moves. Medical-device and machinery plants often need custom sizes or block pallets. Anything packed into an export box at Conley needs HT pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Yards grade differently, so your account manager writes the definition into the quote.

Buying pallets in Massachusetts: questions

Can you deliver to produce wholesalers at the New England Produce Center in Chelsea?
Yes. We deliver to the Chelsea and Everett market buildings and nearby cold stores. These sites keep overnight and early-morning hours, so tell us when receiving opens and how trucks check in, and your account manager confirms grade and delivery details in writing ahead of time.
What pallets do New Bedford seafood processors ask for?
Most want Grade A or new 48x40 pallets that stand up to ice, brine and freezer temperatures. Exporters loading boxes for Conley Terminal also need HT pallets marked under ISPM 15. Send your spec, and your account manager sources from an independent yard in the region and lists the grade on the quote.
Can you supply cranberry handlers during the fall harvest?
Yes. Harvest in southeastern Massachusetts runs from mid-September into early November, so plan pallet needs before the first bogs are flooded. Tell us the expected truckloads and grade, and your account manager confirms the delivery plan and spec.
Do you deliver to warehouses along I-495?
Yes, from Lowell and Andover down through Marlborough, Franklin and Mansfield. Many large buildings on the beltway book inbound freight by appointment; share your booking details and your account manager schedules the truckload and lists grade and count on the written quote.
Where can I buy pallets in Massachusetts?
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Massachusetts?
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Massachusetts?
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
