Squid and other catch landed at Point Judith are graded, packed and frozen at waterfront plants, then shipped across the country and overseas. Local reporting has put the state's share of East Coast longfin landings at half or more. Freezer work needs sound boards and tight nailing that keep their shape at low temperatures.

Quonset Business Park in North Kingstown hosts a large shipbuilding facility that makes submarine components for the Navy, along with seafood processors and other manufacturers. Heavy fabricated parts often need block pallets or skids sized to the piece, and cargo moving through Davisville can bring export packing rules.

I-95 runs the length of the state through Providence and Warwick, with I-295 as a western bypass and I-195 heading east to Fall River and New Bedford. Route 146 links Providence with Worcester, and Route 4 leads south toward Quonset. The Port of Providence handles bulk and breakbulk cargo, including road salt, cement and scrap metal exports. The Port of Davisville at Quonset handles vehicle imports and offshore wind cargo. The nearest full-service container port is Boston's Conley Terminal, which already ships Rhode Island calamari abroad.
