What Corpus Christi makes and ships

Corpus Christi at a glance

Corpus Christi freight starts at the waterline. Tankers load crude along a ship channel deepened to 54 feet, while breakbulk docks, rail-served storage yards and plant gates on both shores of the bay pull steel, parts and supplies off I-37.

The Port of Corpus Christi handled about 203 million tons in 2025, and the port's own commodity report puts crude oil far ahead of everything else, followed by refined petroleum, dry bulk, chemicals and grain. The port also ships liquefied natural gas overseas. Refineries in the city make jet fuel that supplies other parts of Texas. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi hosts the Army depot that overhauls helicopters, and across the bay in Ingleside a 500-acre yard builds and repairs offshore oil and gas platforms.

Very little of that tonnage rides on pallets, but nearly everything that keeps it moving does. Plant maintenance brings in valves, gaskets, pumps and bagged chemicals. Breakbulk docks stage pipe, flat steel and project crates in covered storage. Helicopter components moving to and from the depot need skids sized to the part. Buyers are spread out, from Robstown and Calallen on the west side to Portland, Ingleside and Aransas Pass across the water, so each order is planned around one dock rather than the whole metro.

How freight moves

I-37 runs northwest from the Inner Harbor to San Antonio, and US 77, being rebuilt as I-69E, links the city with Victoria and Brownsville. SH 44 heads west toward Laredo and the border crossings there. US 181 now crosses the ship channel on the new cable-stayed Harbor Bridge, which opened in June 2025 with 205 feet of clearance for ships; demolition of the old arch began that November. The port's Bulk Terminal is served by three Class I railroads through a short line, and Foreign-Trade Zone #122 covers port property.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Corpus Christi.

Match the pallet to the job. Port warehouses and supply houses can run recycled GMA-style 48x40 stringers, Grade A when freight leaves for a customer and Grade B for yard storage. Anything crated for an overseas buyer through the port should ride HT pallets with the ISPM 15 mark. Heavy valves, pumps and helicopter components call for block pallets, which take forks from all four sides, or custom sizes built to the crate drawing. Seafood rooms do better on new or AAA stock with tight decks. Your account manager confirms the grade spec in writing.

Buying pallets in Corpus Christi: questions

Do crates shipped out through the Port of Corpus Christi need heat-treated pallets?
Most overseas destinations require wood packaging to meet ISPM 15. Order HT pallets carrying the ISPM 15 stamp from accredited facilities and keep the mark visible on every pallet. Freight that stays inside the U.S. can ride untreated new or recycled pallets. Your freight forwarder can confirm the destination country's current rule.
Can you deliver to port tenants in the Rincon Industrial Area and along the Inner Harbor?
Yes. We deliver full truckloads to docks around the Inner Harbor, including the port's Rincon area between the barge canals. Port property can have its own gate and credential rules, so send the exact address and access instructions with the order, and your account manager confirms the spec and delivery details.
Does the Harbor Bridge project affect deliveries to Portland and Ingleside?
US 181 traffic moved to the new cable-stayed bridge when it opened in June 2025, and removal of the old arch began that November. Demolition can bring lane shifts near the approaches, so carriers check current routing before they roll. Give your account manager your dock address and receiving hours.
What pallet should a shrimp packer in Aransas Pass order?
Seafood rooms are cold and wet, so most packers do better with new or AAA recycled pallets: tight decks, sound boards and no protruding nails. Tell your account manager how the pallets are stored and whether they go into a freezer, and the grade spec is confirmed before the truck is booked.
Where can I buy pallets in Corpus Christi, TX?
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Corpus Christi, TX?
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Corpus Christi, TX?
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
