The state's economy splits by region. Houston's Ship Channel lines up refineries, resin plants and import warehouses behind two container terminals, Barbours Cut near La Porte and Bayport in Pasadena. Dallas–Fort Worth is a consumer-goods market, fed by an intermodal terminal straddling Wilmer and Hutchins south of Dallas and by the airport and rail ramp at AllianceTexas. On the border, El Paso plants turn out metals, plastics, machinery and medical devices, and the Rio Grande Valley grows grapefruit, vegetables and cotton.

So pallet needs differ by region. Produce importers in Hidalgo County need sound boards when Mexican avocados, tomatoes and peppers come over the Pharr bridge, and Valley citrus packing adds a winter rush. DFW cross-docks go through standard 48x40s on retail freight. Plants shipping parts south over the Laredo and El Paso bridges need wood packaging that meets Mexico's rules.

I-35 starts at Laredo's World Trade Bridge, passes San Antonio and Austin, and splits into I-35E and I-35W around Dallas and Fort Worth. I-45 links Houston with Dallas, and I-10 crosses from Orange through Houston and San Antonio to El Paso. Ocean boxes move through Port Houston's Barbours Cut and Bayport terminals. AllianceTexas pairs a freight airport with a rail intermodal ramp off I-35W, and Mexico-bound trucks clear customs at Laredo, Pharr and El Paso.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Texas.

Loads headed into Mexico need heat-treated (HT) pallets stamped under ISPM 15, and most export destinations served from Port Houston ask for the same mark. DFW retail DCs usually call for Grade A or AAA 48x40s that run cleanly on conveyors and racks. Ship Channel transload and general storage can run on Grade B. Heavy machinery and parts out of El Paso may need block pallets or custom sizes built around the crate. Your account manager confirms the grade spec in writing.

    This applies when you sell used pallets to a recycler. Businesses that recycle, shred or destroy returnable containers (reusable devices of any material used to move or store goods) must get proof of ownership, keep a seller record and check photo ID before buying five or more from one seller.

Buying pallets in Texas: questions

Do loads crossing into Mexico at Laredo or Pharr need heat-treated pallets?+
Yes. Mexico applies ISPM 15 to wood packaging through NOM-144-SEMARNAT-2017, so pallets riding south over the World Trade Bridge or the Pharr–Reynosa bridge should be HT pallets marked to ISPM 15 by an accredited facility. Tell us the crossing and your account manager will spell out the stamp and grade on the quote.
Can you deliver to transload warehouses near Bayport and Barbours Cut?+
Yes. We deliver to warehouses in Pasadena, La Porte, Baytown and along the Ship Channel. Tell us the vessel schedule or the day the containers are due to be stripped, and your account manager will schedule the load around it.
Which pallet works for a produce cooler in the Rio Grande Valley?+
We usually suggest sturdy Grade A 48x40s with sound deckboards, because wet cases and forced-air cooling are hard on weak wood. Some grocery customers name their own spec, and cooler docks in McAllen and Pharr often follow it. Send the receiver's requirements and your account manager confirms the grade.
Do you deliver to El Paso and West Texas, or only the I-35 cities?+
We deliver across Texas, including El Paso, Lubbock, Midland–Odessa and Amarillo. Send the ship-to address and your account manager will put the grade and pallet size on the quote.
