How we supply Alabama

Sourcing

Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't own a yard. For each load we buy from the closest vetted yard that has your grade in stock. One account manager handles your quote, paperwork and invoice.

Where we deliver

Pallet delivery across Alabama.

Most deliveries go to docks in Birmingham, Bessemer and Fultondale in Jefferson County, around Huntsville and Decatur, along I-65 at Montgomery, in Mobile and Theodore near the port, and in Dothan in the Wiregrass.

What Alabama makes and ships

Alabama at a glance

Alabama freight meets at Birmingham, where I-20, I-59, I-65 and I-22 converge, then drops south on I-65 to the Port of Mobile. Huntsville adds air cargo and rail at its intermodal center, and the Wiregrass around Dothan ships peanuts.

The state still makes heavy goods. Steel production and processing remain a key part of Birmingham's economy, with pipe makers and several steel companies in the metro, and a steel terminal at Mobile serves the big mill at Calvert. Automakers assemble vehicles in Tuscaloosa County, Montgomery and north Alabama. Farms supply a real share of the nation's food: Alabama raised a third of U.S. farm-raised catfish in 2020, and a quarter of the U.S. peanut crop is harvested within 75 miles of Dothan.

Those plants and farms pull pallet demand in different directions. Pipe, coil and machined parts call for block pallets and custom sizes. Peanut shellers and catfish processors buy for bagging lines and cold storage. Forest products and steel make Mobile a busy breakbulk port, while containers through its terminal and the rail yards around Birmingham feed distribution centers along I-65 that run on standard 48x40s.

How freight moves

Birmingham is the crossroads: I-20, I-59, I-65 and I-22 serve the city, I-459 loops south of it, and three major freight railroads keep yards in the metro. I-65 runs north past Decatur, with I-565 into Huntsville, toward Nashville, and south through Montgomery to Mobile; I-85 links Montgomery with Atlanta. The Port of Mobile reaches the inland waterway system, including the Tennessee-Tombigbee. Huntsville International Airport anchors an intermodal center beside the Jetplex Industrial Park. Mobile is Alabama's deepwater port for exports.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Alabama.

Steel, pipe and fabricated parts out of Birmingham call for block pallets or custom sizes with heavier deckboards. Catfish freezers do better with AAA or new. Peanut shellers in the Wiregrass favor Grade A that stays dry under bagged loads. I-65 distribution centers run Grade A and Grade B 48x40 stringers. Breakbulk and container exports through Mobile need HT pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Pallet grades aren't standardized across the industry, so your account manager spells out the spec in writing.

Buying pallets in Alabama: questions

What pallet carries pipe and fittings from Birmingham plants?+
Usually a block pallet or a custom heavy-duty build with extra stringers and thicker deckboards. Send the weight per pallet, the product footprint and how it is lifted, and an independent yard near your plant builds to that drawing. Your account manager confirms the spec in writing.
Do exports through the Port of Mobile need heat-treated pallets?+
Yes, if wood pallets or crating travel with the cargo to a country that follows ISPM 15. The wood must be heat treated and stamped by an accredited facility. Tell your account manager which loads are export, and those pallets come from an accredited source.
Can you supply peanut shellers around Dothan during harvest?+
Yes. Tell your account manager when shelling starts, the pallet size your bagging or tote line uses and the grade your buyers accept. Most shellers take sound Grade A or new 48x40s. We deliver across Houston, Henry and Geneva counties.
Can you deliver to warehouses near Huntsville International Airport?+
Yes. Warehouses around the airport's intermodal center, the Jetplex Industrial Park and Decatur are on our map. Share the dock address, pallet size and grade, and your account manager confirms quantity and spec before the first truck rolls.
Where can I buy pallets in Alabama?+
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Alabama?+
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Alabama?+
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
