Pallets deliveredin Hawaii.
Hawaii imports more than 80% of what it uses, most of it on ships from the West Coast into Honolulu Harbor. Containers bound for Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island then transfer to inter-island carriers, so pallet planning starts with the sailing calendar.

Quoted individually.
Ocean or air freight replaces the truck, so the national ranges and lead time don't apply. Your account manager prices each load in writing.
How we supply it
An Atlanta broker, a yard near your plant.
Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't run a yard in Hawaii. For each load we buy from an independent yard close to your dock that has your grade in stock, and the delivered price includes the freight. One account manager handles the quote, the paperwork and the invoice.
Where we deliver
Across Hawaii.
Plants and DCs operate around Honolulu Harbor in Iwilei, Kalihi and Sand Island, near the airport in Mapunapuna, in Halawa and Waipahu, and in Kapolei and Campbell Industrial Park, with neighbor-island docks in Hilo, Kona, Kahului and Lihue.

Hawaii at a glance
What Hawaii makes and moves.
Tourism and the military are two of the biggest pieces of Hawaii's economy, and both run on imported food, beverages and supplies. Honolulu Harbor handles more than 11 million tons of cargo a year within a state system of nine commercial harbors, from Kalaeloa Barbers Point on Oahu to Hilo, Kahului and Nawiliwili. Exports are smaller but real: coffee, macadamia nuts, pineapple, livestock and honey leave the islands, and Kona coffee is hand-picked from August into January on the slopes of Hualalai and Mauna Loa.
Pallet demand follows that inbound flow. Distributors on Oahu break down mainland containers for hotels, grocery stores and restaurants, then rebuild loads for neighbor-island barges. Coffee mills and nut processors on Hawaii Island need pallets for export containers around their harvest peaks. Since freight to and between the islands moves on scheduled sailings, pallet orders here are quoted individually and planned around those schedules rather than around next-day trucking.

Oahu distribution warehouses
Distributors in Kalihi, Mapunapuna, Halawa and Kapolei unload West Coast containers and stage freight for stores, restaurants and neighbor-island barges. They need recycled 48x40s sound enough to survive a second sea leg, plus Grade A stock for retail receivers who check board condition.

Kona coffee and macadamia processors
Mills on Hawaii Island pulp, dry and hull coffee picked between August and January, and macadamia processors ship nuts to mainland and overseas buyers. Export containers call for heat-treated pallets stamped under ISPM 15, and harvest peaks mean orders should be planned before the season.

Resort and restaurant foodservice
Hotels and restaurants from Waikiki to Ka'anapali and Kona draw on foodservice distributors that receive mainland and imported product by container. Their pallets cycle through cold rooms and short delivery runs, so sound Grade A or new pallets fit better than worn stock.

Neighbor-island grocery resupply
Grocery and household-goods freight bound for Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii Island transfers at Honolulu Harbor to inter-island carriers. Pallets on those loads get handled several times between the mainland and the shelf, so receivers on the outer islands benefit from heavier-duty stock.

How freight moves
Ports, rail and interstates.
Ocean freight from West Coast ports arrives at Honolulu Harbor, where the state's Kapalama Container Terminal project borders the inter-island cargo area. Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor serves west Oahu near Campbell Industrial Park. Neighbor-island cargo lands at Hilo and Kawaihae on Hawaii Island, Kahului on Maui, Nawiliwili and Port Allen on Kauai, Kaunakakai on Molokai and Kaumalapau on Lanai. Daniel K. Inouye International handles air cargo, and H-1 and H-2 link Oahu's warehouse districts. Coffee and nut exports leave through the same harbors.

Which pallet to order
The right grade for Hawaii.
Hawaii loads are quoted individually, so choose a grade that justifies the freight. Pallets that will ride an inter-island barge after reaching Oahu should be Grade A or new, because worn stock takes a beating from the extra handling. Coffee, macadamia and other export shippers need heat-treated (HT) pallets bearing the IPPC mark. Honolulu distributors working retail and foodservice loads can use Grade B for internal storage and Grade A outbound. Ask about block pallets for heavy construction materials. Your account manager confirms the spec in writing.
