What New Mexico makes and ships
New Mexico at a glance
New Mexico's freight pivots on two points: the Big I, where I-25 meets I-40 in Albuquerque, and the Santa Teresa port of entry on the Chihuahua line. Green chile, pecans, cheese and cross-border factory parts fill the trailers.
Farms and energy anchor the state's goods economy. New Mexico leads the nation in chile peppers and ranks second in pecans, with Doña Ana and Luna counties out front in chile acreage. Dairy is the top farm commodity, and the big cheddar plant between Clovis and Portales draws milk from eastern plains herds. Oil from the Permian Basin in the southeast has made the state a leading crude producer. Albuquerque's factories turn out electrical equipment, processed food, and stone, glass and clay products.
Pallets follow those seasons and sectors. Green chile is picked from July into October and red chile into December, so Mesilla Valley packers need extra stock in the back half of the year. Cheese and dairy plants run year-round on cold-chain specs. Santa Teresa's rail park and border crossing tie the state to factories across the line in Chihuahua. Albuquerque warehouses sit where I-25 and I-40 cross, serving stores spread over long rural routes.

How freight moves
I-25 runs north–south from Las Cruces through Albuquerque to Santa Fe and on to Colorado, and I-40 crosses east–west from Tucumcari through Albuquerque to Gallup. I-10 clips the south through Las Cruces and Deming toward Arizona and El Paso. Commercial trucks enter from Mexico at Santa Teresa, and the Columbus crossing links Luna County to Puerto Palomas. A transcontinental rail line runs through the division-point yard at Belen, south of Albuquerque, and the Santa Teresa rail park connects by short line to a western Class I railroad.

Which pallet to order
The right pallet grade for New Mexico.
Anything crossing south at Santa Teresa or Columbus needs heat-treated (HT) pallets stamped under ISPM 15; Mexico enforces the standard on wood packaging. Chile and pecan packers can run Grade A 48x40s for grocery buyers, with extra loads booked ahead of the late-summer harvest. Cheese and dairy plants usually prefer new or AAA pallets for cold storage. Albuquerque DCs serving retail often take Grade A, while dry storage warehouses can use Grade B. Your account manager confirms the grade spec in writing for each dock.
