Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't run a yard in Jacksonville. Jacksonville at a glance
What Jacksonville makes and moves.
JAXPORT's three public terminals handle containers, vehicles, breakbulk and liquid bulk. The port says trade with Puerto Rico makes up about half of its container business, with weekly sailings carrying consumer goods to San Juan. JAXPORT counts Blount Island among the largest vehicle import and export centers in the U.S., Talleyrand handles frozen and chilled goods along with molasses and vegetable oils, and Dames Point runs direct container service to South America. Behind the docks, distribution buildings fill the Westside and Northside submarkets.
That gives Jacksonville two kinds of pallet demand. Island-bound freight is built onto pallets in local warehouses and loaded into containers and trailers for the Puerto Rico run, so decks have to survive stacking at sea. Westside and Northside DCs cycle standard 48x40s for retail and e-commerce orders. South of the city, potato and cabbage farms around Hastings add a seasonal pull from winter into late spring.
Who buys pallets here

Puerto Rico lane consolidators
Warehouses that feed the weekly San Juan sailings build consumer-goods loads for containers and trailers. Those pallets ride under stacked freight for the whole voyage, then get handled again on the island, so strong top decks and solid stringers matter more than appearance. Grade A or new stock keeps claims down.

Westside I-10 distribution
The Westside, around I-10, I-295 and the former Naval Air Station Cecil Field, now Cecil Commerce Center, holds large buildings for retail and consumer goods. Brokers say new 2026 leasing has been anchored there and on the Northside. Those DCs need Grade A 48x40s that rack well and pass store receiving.
Consumer goods → - 03
Talleyrand cold cargo
Talleyrand Marine Terminal moves frozen and chilled goods, plus liquid bulk such as molasses and vegetable oils. Food warehouses that receive that freight run wet freezer floors and blast rooms, which points to Grade A, AAA or new pallets with tight nailing that won't crack when a loaded forklift turns on them.

Hastings potato and cabbage packers
The Tri-County Agricultural Area around Hastings, in St. Johns, Putnam and Flagler counties, grows potatoes and cabbage for winter and spring markets. When the crop comes in, packers need pallets that tolerate field dirt, damp coolers and reefer trailers bound for grocery and wholesale buyers.

How freight moves
Ports, rail and interstates.
I-10 starts its run west to California at I-95 in Jacksonville, and I-295 loops the city to tie both to the port terminals and Jacksonville International. The First Coast Expressway (SR 23) reaches from I-10 south into Clay County. Rail serves the docks directly: the Dames Point ICTF moves boxes between ship and train, and Talleyrand's ICTF has direct switching to two Class I railroads. Rail yards in the city tie into the national network, and the Florida East Coast line runs south toward Miami. Air cargo moves through Jacksonville International and Cecil Airport.

Which pallet to order
The right grade for Jacksonville.
Westside and Northside DCs should run Grade A 48x40 recycled stringers for racking and retail receiving, with Grade B for one-way outbound freight. Loads built for the Puerto Rico ships need decks that survive stacking at sea, so ask about Grade A or new. For South America or other foreign ports out of Dames Point, order HT pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Cold-storage buildings and Hastings packers do better with AAA or new pallets that stay sound when wet. Your account manager writes up the grade and treatment before the order is placed.
