Georgia freight flows inland from the Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal on I-16 and I-95, then fans out from Atlanta along I-75, I-85 and I-20. North Georgia adds poultry from Gainesville and flooring from Dalton, and Brunswick handles roll-on cargo.
Savannah is the import gate. Garden City Terminal sits beside I-95 and I-16 with rail on the terminal, and the Georgia Ports Authority sends containers by train to the Appalachian Regional Port at Crandall and, since May 2026, to a new inland port at Gainesville. Brunswick's Colonels Island Terminal handles vehicles and machinery, and the authority calls Brunswick the nation's busiest Ro/Ro port. Inland, Hall County processes poultry, Dalton mills make carpet and flooring, and a 20-county zone in southeast Georgia grows Vidalia onions under state law.
Pallet demand follows those flows. Import warehouses in Pooler and Garden City strip containers and rebuild freight on recycled 48x40s, and Atlanta's distribution belt along I-75 and I-85 ships the same pallets out to stores across the Southeast. Poultry plants and onion sheds run cold, damp and seasonal. Dalton's flooring cartons are dense and heavy, which pushes buyers toward stronger decks and custom lengths.

How freight moves
I-16 runs from Savannah to Macon and I-75, and I-95 passes the port on its way to Brunswick and Jacksonville. Atlanta is the junction: I-75, I-85 and I-20 cross downtown inside the I-285 perimeter. Rail carries port containers to Crandall near Dalton and to the Gainesville inland port in Hall County. Garden City is the container gateway for Georgia exporters, while Colonels Island in Brunswick takes roll-on cargo, breakbulk and project cargo.

Which pallet to order
The right pallet grade for Georgia.
Pooler and Garden City import warehouses mostly reuse Grade A and Grade B 48x40s; Grade B suits one-way store freight. Poultry plants in Hall County lean toward AAA or new for freezers, and onion packers in Toombs County favor Grade A that holds up in cool storage. Dalton flooring plants should ask about block pallets or custom lengths for dense loads. Any pallet sailing from Savannah or Brunswick must be HT and marked under ISPM 15. Your account manager confirms the grade spec in writing.
