What Utah makes and ships

Utah at a glance

Utah sits where I-15 meets I-80 in Salt Lake City, long nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. The transcontinental rail line runs west across the salt flats toward Nevada, and warehouses stretch north to Clearfield and Ogden and south toward Provo.

Utah's freight economy has military roots. The Freeport Center in Clearfield began in 1943 as a Navy supply depot, chosen partly for dry storage weather and for sitting roughly equidistant from the Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles ports. Ogden's old defense depot became Business Depot Ogden, now home to food plants and distribution centers. The Utah Inland Port Authority, created by the legislature in 2018, oversees rail-served logistics project areas around the state, beginning in Salt Lake City's northwest quadrant.

Today the Wasatch Front ships consumer goods, food and equipment across the Intermountain West. Direct-sales consumer-products companies, one of Utah's major sectors, send cases of household and personal goods to distributors nationwide. Food plants at Business Depot Ogden ship candy and packaged foods. Aerospace depot work at Hill Air Force Base and its suppliers adds heavy, odd-sized parts. Salt Lake City International carries air cargo for all of them.

How freight moves

I-15 runs the length of the Wasatch Front from Ogden through Salt Lake City to Provo and St. George, then on to Las Vegas. I-80 crosses west over the Bonneville Salt Flats to Wendover and Reno, and east through Parleys Canyon toward Wyoming. I-84 leaves the Ogden area for Idaho and Boise, and the I-215 belt route circles the Salt Lake Valley. The transcontinental rail line west of Salt Lake City follows I-80 across the desert. Utah has no seaport, so ocean freight reaches it by rail or truck.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Utah.

Wasatch Front DCs shipping to retail usually want Grade A 48x40s, and direct-sales shippers who need uniform loads may step up to AAA. Third-party warehouses at the Freeport Center and Business Depot Ogden can run Grade B on internal moves and storage. Food and dairy plants do best on new or AAA. Aerospace and equipment work around Hill Air Force Base needs block pallets or custom sizes. Export crates should ride HT pallets carrying the ISPM 15 stamp. Utah's dry climate helps stored pallets stay dry between uses.

Buying pallets in Utah: questions

Can you deliver to the Freeport Center in Clearfield?+
Yes. We deliver to tenants across the Freeport Center and Business Depot Ogden, as well as other Davis and Weber county industrial parks. Send building numbers and dock details, since both parks are large campuses, and your account manager will confirm the grade and delivery plan in writing.
Do you cover warehouses in Salt Lake City's northwest quadrant near the airport?+
Yes. We deliver to distribution centers west of the airport, along I-80 and SR-201 in Salt Lake City and West Valley City, and out toward Tooele. Give us the address and receiving rules, and your account manager will confirm the load.
What pallet do Utah direct-sales shippers usually order?+
Shippers sending cases to distributors nationwide often choose Grade A or AAA 48x40s so loads look uniform and run through racking. If your receivers set their own rules, send them and your account manager will spell out the grade spec on the quote before the load ships.
Can you build custom pallets for aerospace parts near Hill Air Force Base?+
Yes. Contractors in Clearfield, Layton and the rest of Davis County can order block pallets or custom sizes built to a part or crate. Send drawings, weights and how the load is lifted, and your account manager will quote the build and confirm it.
Where can I buy pallets in Utah?+
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Utah?+
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Utah?+
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
