How we supply Louisiana

Sourcing

Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't own a yard. For each load we buy from the closest vetted yard that has your grade in stock. One account manager handles your quote, paperwork and invoice.

Where we deliver

Pallet delivery across Louisiana.

Most deliveries go to docks in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes, the river parishes from St. Charles to Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Acadiana, Terrebonne and Lafourche, Calcasieu around Lake Charles, and Caddo–Bossier.

What Louisiana makes and ships

Louisiana at a glance

Louisiana freight follows the Mississippi, from Baton Rouge's deep-water docks down to Port NOLA's container and breakbulk wharves in New Orleans. I-10 and I-12 carry it east and west, while sugar factories, seafood docks and shipyards line the bayou parishes.

Louisiana's economy runs on processing. Chemical plants and refineries crowd the river between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, and Port Fourchon supplies offshore oil and gas platforms. Food is just as local: crawfish ponds and shrimp boats work Acadiana and the coast, rice fields spread across the prairie, cane from the sugar parishes goes to 11 raw-sugar factories, and a large coffee-roasting plant operates in New Orleans East. Port NOLA, the state's only deep-water container port, also handles breakbulk steel, rubber, wood and paper.

Pallet demand splits along those lines. Seafood, sugar and coffee processors ship cases and bags that need sound, dry decks in a climate where stored wood picks up moisture fast. Import warehouses around Port NOLA strip containers and rebuild loads for trucks. Shipyards and fabrication shops around Houma and Morgan City, along with plants upriver, ship heavy, oversized parts on block pallets or skids built to fit. Exporters loading at New Orleans or Baton Rouge need ISPM 15 wood.

Ports, rail and highways

How freight moves

I-10 crosses the state through Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, with I-12 running along the north shore from Baton Rouge to Slidell. I-49 runs from Lafayette to Shreveport, I-20 crosses the north through Shreveport and Monroe, and I-55 heads north from LaPlace toward Jackson. Port NOLA handles the state's ocean containers and breakbulk, with on-dock rail at the Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal and a refrigerated terminal on Henry Clay Avenue. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge takes Panamax ships, and Port Fourchon serves offshore oil and gas work.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Louisiana.

Humidity is the Louisiana problem. Wood stored outside takes on moisture, so ask for pallets that have been kept under cover and put them to use quickly. Heat-treated (HT) pallets stamped under ISPM 15 are required for most export loads through Port NOLA and Baton Rouge; heat treatment kills pests but does not stop mold. Seafood and frozen-food shippers should order new or AAA. Sugar, rice and coffee warehouses can run Grade A. Fabrication yards and upriver plants with heavy parts need block pallets or custom sizes.

Buying pallets in Louisiana: questions

Do loads exporting through Port NOLA need heat-treated pallets?+
Most foreign destinations require wood packaging treated and marked to ISPM 15, so export loads leaving Port NOLA or Baton Rouge should ride HT pallets from an ALSC-accredited facility. Tell us the destination country and your account manager will confirm HT stock and the stamp in writing.
How do you deal with Louisiana humidity and pallet moisture?+
Wood stored in the open picks up moisture fast here. We source from yards near your dock, ask for stock that has been kept dry, and note any moisture limit on the order. If your receiver sets a moisture spec, send it and your account manager puts it on the quote.
Can you deliver to seafood and crawfish processors in Acadiana?+
Yes. We deliver to processors and cold-storage docks around Lafayette, Breaux Bridge, Abbeville and the coastal parishes. Wet product is hard on wood, so we usually suggest new or AAA pallets.
What pallet suits a Houma or Morgan City fabrication shop?+
Heavy marine and offshore parts rarely fit a standard 48x40. Block pallets or custom skids sized to the part, with heavier deckboards, are the usual answer. Send dimensions, weights and how the load is lifted, and your account manager will quote a custom build in writing.
Do you deliver in north Louisiana around Shreveport and Monroe?+
Yes. We deliver to warehouses and plants along I-20 and I-49 in Caddo, Bossier and Ouachita parishes, not just the river corridor. Each load is sourced from a yard within reach of that dock, and your account manager spells out the grade spec on the quote.
Where can I buy pallets in Louisiana?+
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Louisiana?+
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Louisiana?+
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
