What North Dakota makes and moves.
North Dakota grew about six in ten bushels of U.S. durum in 2025 and led the nation in canola, sunflowers, dry edible beans and honey. Much of that crop is milled, cleaned or bagged in state. The North Dakota Mill, the only state-owned mill in the country, grinds flour and semolina in Grand Forks. Sugar factories at Hillsboro, Drayton and Wahpeton process beets, and fry plants in Grand Forks and Jamestown take valley potatoes. Bismarck and Gwinner build compact equipment, and the Bakken oil field draws pipe, valves and supplies west.
Pallet demand here follows harvest and the oil patch more than retail. Bagged flour, beans and seed need sturdy 48x40s, and orders climb from late summer through the beet and potato campaign. I-29 runs up the Red River Valley from Fargo through Grand Forks to Pembina, where trucks cross into Manitoba at one of the busiest crossings west of the Great Lakes. I-94 crosses the state from Fargo through Jamestown, Bismarck and Dickinson toward Montana. US-2 links Grand Forks, Minot and Williston along the northern tier, and US-85 serves the Bakken. Main-line rail carries grain west, and Hector International Airport in Fargo handles feeder air cargo. Export containers usually reach coastal ports by rail.

Which pallet to order
The right grade for North Dakota.
Flour, semolina and bean shippers usually want Grade A or new 48x40s with solid decks under heavy bags. Sugar and fry plants order a large batch of standard pallets ahead of the campaign, with tighter grades for frozen cases. Equipment plants and Bakken supply yards need block pallets or heavy custom skids. Under Canada's import rules, pallets made from U.S. or Canadian wood and shipped straight across at Pembina are exempt from ISPM 15, but anything bound overseas needs HT pallets stamped under ISPM 15. Your account manager spells out grade and treatment in writing.
