The Port of Alaska sits on Knik Arm just north of downtown, near the Alaska Railroad's yards along Ship Creek, where Anchorage began as a railroad tent camp in 1915. The Glenn Highway runs northeast past Eagle River and Chugiak to Palmer and joins the Parks Highway to Wasilla and Fairbanks. The Seward Highway follows Turnagain Arm south toward Girdwood, Whittier and the Kenai. Ted Stevens Anchorage International lies five miles southwest of downtown, beside the Lake Hood floatplane base that serves bush lodges and villages.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Anchorage.

Bush-freight shippers using bypass mail need uniform 48x40s that stack square under shrink wrap, so Grade A or new is the usual choice. What pallet should construction suppliers near the port order?
Bagged cement, steel and lumber concentrate weight, so block pallets or custom skids built to the load usually work better than standard stringers. Send dimensions and weights early, since each Anchorage order is quoted individually, and your account manager puts the build spec in writing.
