Sourcing

Chesapeake Pallets is a pallet broker based in Atlanta. We don't own a yard. For each load we buy from the closest vetted yard that has your grade in stock. One account manager handles your quote, paperwork and invoice.

What Oregon makes and ships

Oregon at a glance

Oregon freight follows two rivers. Grain, potash and soda ash cross Portland's river terminals, frozen potato products leave the Boardman area on I-84, and Willamette Valley berries, hazelnuts and nursery stock roll north on I-5 toward Portland's warehouse districts.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture counts more than 220 commodities, with greenhouse and nursery stock the top earner. Oregon grows about 99% of U.S. hazelnuts, leads the nation in grass seed, and produces more blackberries, marionberries and black raspberries than any other state. East of the Cascades, irrigated Columbia Basin farms feed frozen-potato lines near Boardman, where the Port of Morrow offers freezer and dry storage with truck and rail service. Portland adds manufacturing and distribution in Port-owned parks such as Rivergate, Swan Island and Troutdale Reynolds.

Those industries pull pallets in different directions. Valley growers and packers need pallets on hand before summer berries and fall hazelnuts arrive. Frozen-food plants need pallets that stand up to freezer stacking, and their export loads need heat treatment. Portland and Troutdale distribution buildings take standard 48x40s for retail and parcel freight. Container options changed in January 2026, when service relaunched at the Port of Portland's Terminal 6 under a new operator, giving exporters a local box terminal again.

How freight moves

I-5 runs the length of the Willamette Valley through Eugene and Salem to Portland and on to Seattle. I-84 follows the Columbia east past Boardman and Pendleton toward Boise, I-205 loops past PDX air cargo, and I-84 also reaches the Troutdale parks. Grain and potash move through Terminal 5, autos and soda ash through Terminal 4, barges work the Columbia, and containers again load at Terminal 6 after the 2026 relaunch. The Northwest Seaport Alliance also lists Portland among the warehouse concentrations in its Tacoma–Seattle gateway.

Which pallet to order

The right pallet grade for Oregon.

Valley packers and frozen-food plants usually do best with Grade A recycled or new pallets that stay square when stacked in cold storage. Frozen-potato shippers and anyone else exporting product need heat-treated (HT) pallets marked under ISPM 15, whether the container loads at Terminal 6 or in Tacoma. Rivergate and Troutdale distribution centers run GMA 48x40s, with Grade B for internal moves and Grade A for retail delivery. Swan Island and Gresham equipment builders should ask about block pallets or custom sizes. Your account manager confirms the spec in writing.

Buying pallets in Oregon: questions

Can you deliver to warehouses in the Rivergate Industrial District?+
Yes. We arrange truckload pallet deliveries to Rivergate, Swan Island and the rest of North Portland, plus Troutdale and Gresham. Share your dock address, receiving hours and the pallet your customers require, and your account manager confirms grade and size before anything ships.
Do I need heat-treated pallets now that Terminal 6 is moving containers again?+
If the pallets leave the country under your product, usually yes. Importing countries apply ISPM 15 to wood packaging no matter which terminal loads the box, so order HT pallets stamped with the IPPC mark for export work and standard stock for domestic freight.
Can I have pallets ready before the summer berry and fall hazelnut harvests?+
Yes. Packers and handlers can place orders ahead of the season and schedule deliveries against their own harvest plan. Tell your account manager your expected volume by week and whether product goes into cold storage, and the pallet spec is settled before the rush begins.
Do you serve food plants in Boardman and along I-84 in eastern Oregon?+
Yes. We deliver to processors and cold-storage warehouses around Boardman and along the I-84 corridor. These plants often need pallets that handle freezer stacking and long reefer runs, so your account manager spells out deckboard, stringer and grade details on the quote.
Can you supply block pallets for manufacturers in Gresham or on Swan Island?+
Yes. Block pallets give true four-way forklift entry and carry heavier, concentrated loads than stringer pallets. For machinery, metal parts or oversize crates, send dimensions and load weight, and your account manager will quote block or custom-size pallets with the spec in writing.
Where can I buy pallets in Oregon?+
From us, by the full truckload: 616 recycled 48x40s per truck, or 520 block pallets. Call (470) 206-3352 or book a test load.
What do pallets cost delivered to Oregon?+
Full-truckload prices run from $4.75 a pallet for Grade B to $10.50 for AAA, freight included. Heat-treated adds $1.00–$1.50 per pallet.
When will a load reach Oregon?+
Your delivery date is on the quote, in writing, before you send a PO. Standard 48x40s often arrive in 0–2 business days. New and custom builds take longer.
